A belt is a flexible band, typically made of leather or heavy cloth, and worn around the waist. A belt supports trousers or other articles of clothing, and it serves for style and decoration.

Belts have been documented for male clothing since the Bronze Age. Both sexes used them off and on, depending on the current fashion, but it was a rarity in female fashion with the exception of the early Middle Ages, late 17th century Mantua, and skirt/blouse combinations between 1900 and 1910. Art Nouveau belt buckles are now collector's items.

Men's belts should be fed around the waste in a clockwise direction so that the tail is pointing to the right. The convention for women is reversed. This follows many tailoring conventions where by the left side of the item of clothing overlaps the right hand side.

It is thought this convention arose in Medieval times such that Knights may fasten their buttons with their left hand while still holding a sword right-handed.

Different materials are used for the manufacturing of belts. Some are made out of leather, synthetic leather, plastic, rubber, canvass, woven textile, indigenous material, beads and metals or any combination of these. Each of these materials have their own advantages and own aesthetic appeal. Majority, however, still rely on using leather belts.

Belts made of leather are still in vogue even with the advent of belts made of newer fabrics and other materials like plastic, jute and reptile skins. However, it is very important to take very good care of leather belts, as they are more prone to deterioration than any other materials used to make belts.

1. Leather belts can come in a variety of shapes, sizes, colors and decorations. Some leather belts have beading on them as you might see at a Native American Powow, others have designs cut into them, while others may even have painting on them. Leather belts come with or without buckles, some have leather straps to tie around your waist, others have a hole and a hook that grabs onto it. With the advent of the leather belt as a fashion accessory, the sky is the limit when it comes to design.

2. Leather belts can be made from many different types of animals depending on the style of belt. While most are made from cow hide as this is more readily available than most other types of leather, some are made from leather cured from a deer or elk skin, and even rabbit skin is a possibility though not as common. Even reptiles aren't left out of the realm of possibilities as evidenced by alligator skin belts.

3. Leather belts are classic pieces that never lose its touch. Leather is pliable and durable and those qualities make it ideal to used for belts. Adding to that, the leather belt has its timeless aesthetic value that livens up any ensemble. Though, the leather material could grow molds and mildew when it has not been used for a long time, it is still the most practical. The maintenance for any leather material is as simple as using them everyday or keeping them in a moisture-free place. There are also oils, balms and conditioner that can be purchased to preserve it.

The biggest question is how long an investor will have to wait to turn a profit here. The answer depends on your age. An educated estimate would say five years. For investors who are at or nearing retirement age, this might not be your cup of tea. For everyone else, St. Helena waterfront lots are a sure bet for substantial growth in value.

Regardless if Downtown Beaufort, the Robert Smalls commercial corridor, or waterfront land on St. Helena Island, these investment areas are an investors best bet when it comes to investing in the Beaufort SC area.

To keep your carpets looking their best, it is recommended that you vacuum your carpets twice a week for two people, or more frequently if you have heavier traffic, the more the better. Use a good quality vacuum cleaner. Remove shoes when entering the house and wear sock or slippers.

Professional Carpet Cleaning

New carpet warranties require cleaning every twelve to eighteen months to keep them valid. The best approach is regular maintenance, where high used areas and traffic lanes, are cleaned frequently (every three to six months). The less used carpet areas, such as bedrooms etc., are cleaned less often. Your carpet will last years longer and your home will be healthier.

Cleaning Spills and Removing Spots

Most people do not know the difference between spots and stains. Spots are caused by a foreign material, that is present on or around a fiber. Stains are caused by dies from a foreign material absorbed into the fiber, and they can stay with you forever.

Regularly, we are able to safely remove permanent stains with our new specialized stain removers, but not always, and it can be costly. It is safer and less costly to act immediately. Most stains that are allowed to dry over night, will become more difficult to remove. This also applies to hot tee, and especially coffee as they become heat set, so whenever possible, always deal with spills as soon as they happen.

Spot Removal Tips

1. Blot up any surface liquid, or in the case of a spill with solids, carefully remove as much of the solids with a spoon.

2. Use Action ChemDry's professional spot remover to address spots, or cold water/ club soda to dampen the whole spot area.

3. Using the bottom of a spoon as you agitate the Action ChemDry solution on and around the spot area.

4. With the cleaning cloth, (white terry cloth works best), apply pressure and blot up the liquid. Never rub the stain, or you could permanently damage the carpet or fabric.

5. It may be necessary to repeat the process several times on particularly stains. While turning the towel to a clean section, and checking for transfer of staining material.

6. For large wet stains, when transfer no longer occurs, fold the clean towel into a pad, place on area , and weight with books or other heavy objects to force remaining moisture into the towel.

Emergency Stains and Spills

There are some stains and spills that are impossible for you, the householder, to address. The ChemDry professional has the knowledge, equipment and solutions necessary to remove most stubborn stains. We therefore recommend that in the event of such an emergency, the following procedure will minimize damage. Here the things that you should do:

1. Act immediately before the spills or stains spread too far or penetrate the fiber

2. Scrape up as much as possible with a spoon

3. Always work towards the center of the spillage to avoid spreading

4. Blot up liquids with a clean cloth towel or paper towel

5. Use plain warm water to dampen and blot the spill without rubbing

6. Keep the spill/stain moist with a little water, and keep a damp cloth over the area until help arrives

7. Call your local carpet cleaning expert immediately
