What is the best way to prevent getting dark underarms from deodorants?

I have been using Secret and Degree deodorants, but my mom told me that over time I could get dark armpits from them. They're not that bad yet but I would like to how I can prevent them from getting darker. I'm into halter and tank tops in the summer so i like wearing sleeveless shirts so I want to make sure I spare myself from the potential embarassment they say it can bring. Are there any good ways to prevent them? Any deodorants that don't darken over time? Thanks.

the dark armpit thing is from shaving them, not your deodorant, so it happens over time to everyone who shaves their armpits but it isn't a big deal - it's not like they'll look black or anything.
